Aasen Saunas was founded by Peter Tollefson, a designer and builder with a deep passion for Scandinavian living. After more than a decade leading design teams at a Fortune 50 company, Peter shifted his focus from digital experiences to physical craft, blending design precision with hands-on building.
What began as a personal sauna project years ago quickly grew into a studio dedicated to creating custom saunas for modern living. Today, Aasen Saunas designs and builds bespoke projects across Minnesota, guided by a simple principle: every sauna should feel timeless, intentional, and built to last.

Our approach balances Finnish sauna tradition with clean Scandinavian design. We use premium materials paired with thoughtful details in lighting, ventilation, and accessories. Each project is tailored to the client’s space, whether a backyard, basement, or lakefront retreat, and built with the belief that a sauna should feel as natural as the rituals it supports.
I’ve always believed that design is about more than how something looks, it’s about how it feels, and how it shapes daily life. My interest in saunas goes back many years, building long before Aasen Saunas was born. That early experience, combined with a lifelong fascination with sauna culture, eventually inspired me to bring together my background in design and my passion for craft.
What started as a personal pursuit has grown into Aasen Saunas, and runs alongside my work with Aasen Homes, where we design and build custom houses and renovations. Together, these two studios share the same foundation: Scandinavian-inspired design, careful craftsmanship, and creating spaces that improve the way people live.
